Can You Get Enough Resveratrol From Red Wine?
Many people like to think that they can get all the vitamins and minerals, antioxidants and polyphenols from their diet alone, and that they don’t have to supplement in any way. While this might have been true about 200 years ago, today all vegetables and fruits are cultivated in a manner which speeds up the growing, but leaves the crops lacking minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. In the northern hemisphere nearly all of the fruits are imported, and they are harvested while they still are raw and never produce enough vitamins.
The same thing goes for anything, and even if red grapes have been shown to be rich in resveratrol, they aren’t rich enough for one to get a sufficient amount just by eating them in reasonable amounts. Red wine on the other hand contains more resveratrol than grapes, and one can get as much as 1,4mg of resveratrol from one serving of red wine.
There is no proof that such a small dose is sufficient to have any positive effect on ones health, and most of the research has been done using 150mg as a daily dose. Getting this much resveratrol from red wine alone is madness, and one would have to take in dozens of servings each day. This is where the supplements come in once again.
A high quality resveratrol supplement will contain from 50mg per capsule to as much as 500mg per capsule. Depending on the required dose, one should choose a supplement matching their needs. At the same time it is important to be sure that they supplement at hand is of a good quality.
